Postdoc position: Statistical Data Science and Machine Learning for Climate Change Research

The University of Bern seeks a Postdoc in Statistical Data Science and Machine Learning for Climate Change Research to coordinate platform activities and support early-career researchers.

This position focuses on platform coordination and scientific animation within the OCCR platform. The role requires a foundational background in statistics to support interdisciplinary climate and weather research.

Responsibilities

• Offer guidance and technical feedback to graduate students and early-career researchers.
• Lead scientific animation efforts, such as organizing crash-courses on platform-relevant subjects.
• Travel to and potentially spend part-time time at other OCCR groups to foster collaborations.

Requirements

• Hold a PhD in statistics, machine learning, or applied mathematics.
• Alternatively, possess a PhD in climate science, atmospheric science, or meteorology with a strong foundation in statistics and machine learning.
• Demonstrate a strong passion for climate and weather applications.
• Showcase excellent programming and data management capabilities.
• Express a keen interest in interdisciplinary research.
• Be fluent in English, both written and spoken.
