MeteoSwiss seeks a Scientific Collaborator in Climate Scenarios to translate climate model projections into usable products, working closely with ETH Zurich and end-users in Zurich.
This position is part of the Climate Evolution team at MeteoSwiss, based at the headquarters near Zurich Airport. The role focuses on bridging the gap between complex climate model data and practical application, requiring close collaboration with researchers at ETH Zurich and various practitioners who rely on these insights.
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine scientific techniques to convert climate model projections into accessible scenario products.
- Implement technical solutions within the MeteoSwiss infrastructure and provide ongoing support for these methods.
- Analyze outcomes and communicate findings effectively to diverse user groups.
- Assist users in correctly interpreting and utilizing scenario products for their specific needs.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree in natural sciences or computational science.
- Strong programming proficiency in R and/or Python.
- Deep understanding of modern statistical methods applied to climate data analysis.
- Fluency in both German and English.
Nice to have
- A PhD in meteorology, climatology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
- Practical experience handling climate model data, especially large ensembles.
- Background in analyzing climate extremes.
