Arjo Switzerland seeks a Principal Engineer to lead metal component design, welding standards, and failure analysis in a global, hybrid role focused on quality and cross-functional collaboration.

This global position focuses on metal components, welded structures, and manufacturing processes. The role combines strong technical expertise with quality assurance and cross-functional collaboration across operations and engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Define and verify mechanical specifications for metal systems and subsystems.
  • Develop welding methods, standardize documentation, and establish quality standards for non-destructive testing (NDT).
  • Create and maintain global welding and fabrication guidelines across all sites.
  • Design bent, welded, and CNC-machined components while managing technical documentation.
  • Lead failure investigations for welded structures, providing corrective actions and preventive measures.
  • Develop prototypes, conduct risk assessments, and define risk control strategies.
  • Partner with suppliers for process audits, production validation, and issue resolution.
  • Support industrialization efforts, analyze change requests, and manage CAPAs and claims.
  • Plan and execute mechanical, structural, and material testing.
  • Contribute to new materials and joining techniques, validating technologies with PD&E teams.
  • Serve as the primary expert in metal and welding technologies for engineering, quality, and sourcing decisions.
  • Mentor engineers on welding fabrication, quality criteria, and NDT testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Over 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, specializing in metal components and welded structures across development and industrialization.
  • Proven track record in solving complex metal fabrication issues, supporting prototypes, and improving products and processes.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers, including process audits and manufacturing quality improvements.
  • Ability to conduct failure analysis and provide clear technical recommendations.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with PD&E, Procurement, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Excellent English proficiency for clear communication in an international setting.
