Smith & Nephew (Switzerland) seeks a Manufacturing Engineer in Aarau to lead design transfers and manufacturing projects while ensuring quality, cost, and time efficiency for advanced medical devices.
This position is responsible for the efficient execution of design and manufacturing transfers, internal projects, and process changes. The engineer collaborates with various stakeholders to ensure these initiatives meet strict time, quality, and budget constraints while supporting the production of advanced medical devices.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end transfer of designs and manufacturing processes, ensuring adherence to defined schedules, quality standards, and cost limits.
- Oversee project execution by creating schedules, managing budgets, tracking progress, and presenting updates to governance groups.
- Serve as the technical authority for manufacturing processes, designing and implementing compliant solutions for advanced medical devices.
- Conduct process risk assessments, characterization studies, and capability analyses to ensure robust production methods.
- Provide expert consulting on manufacturing, quality, and supplier-related issues, including troubleshooting changes and quality deviations.
- Develop and maintain compliant technical documentation, including Design Dossiers, Design History Files (DHF), and process specifications like DMRs and MBOMs within Windchill PLM.
- Report any product or process deviations to the manager or Quality department immediately.
- Complete all mandatory training related to Quality systems and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Assist in identifying, evaluating, and procuring new manufacturing equipment.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts, focusing on cost reduction and process optimization.
Requirements
- Engineering degree, HF qualification, or Technician certification with at least three years of relevant professional experience.
- Strong understanding of quality control, risk mitigation strategies, and statistical process control techniques.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on developing sustainable, long-term solutions.
- Familiarity with Lean management tools and methodologies.
- Proficiency in standard office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Fluency in both German and English, with the ability to communicate effectively and write technical documentation in both languages.
