Philip Morris Services SA seeks a Principal Scientist in Neuchâtel to lead preclinical biology and pharmacology strategy for novel compounds, driving the transition to smoke-free products through scientific innovation and cross-functional leadership.

This senior leadership position is tasked with defining and executing the preclinical biology and pharmacology strategy for new compounds. The role serves as a key driver for the company’s vision to replace traditional cigarettes with alternative products, operating within a supportive environment of expert scientists and advanced technology. Responsibilities

  • Develop tailored strategies and operational plans for generating biology and pharmacology evidence.
  • Lead cross-functional teams, including external contracted research organizations, to implement and execute research programs effectively.
  • Draft and present scientific and operational proposals to cross-functional governance forums for approval.
  • Monitor and report on program progress, budget adherence, and potential risks, proposing mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Create science-based communications regarding research findings to inform internal business decisions and support external scientific engagement.
  • Collaborate with internal partners at various organizational levels and engage with external scientific experts.
  • Maintain deep scientific knowledge to inform innovative strategies and provide insights to other research areas.

Requirements

  • PhD and post-doctoral fellowship in Pharmacology or Biological Sciences.
  • At least 10 years of experience in non-clinical or translational research, such as preclinical pharmacology, Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics, or early clinical development.
  • Proven track record of advancing research programs to critical decision points and achieving evidence-based product outcomes.
  • Expertise spanning multiple health domains, including neuroscience, pulmonary health, cardiovascular health, and oral health.
  • Strong business acumen derived from industry leadership roles involving both scientific and operational management.
  • Demonstrated scientific and operational leadership, critical thinking, strategic mindset, result-orientation, and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Innovative and creative approach to research challenges.
  • Excellent engagement, influencing, and communication abilities.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
