Principal/Senior ML scientist

Liom seeks a Principal or Senior ML Scientist in Pfäffikon to develop non-invasive glucose monitoring technology using advanced machine learning and multi-disciplinary research.

The company is a Swiss health-tech startup aiming to create the first wearable device for non-invasive glucose monitoring. This role focuses on solving foundational scientific and technological challenges in machine learning, personalized health, and predictive medicine within a team of over 30 experts, including more than 20 PhDs.

Responsibilities

• Research and build computational solutions for continuous, non-invasive multi-biomarker monitoring.
• Integrate deep knowledge across biophotonics, biomedical engineering, microfluidics, electronics, and manufacturing.
• Train medical-grade machine learning algorithms to infer glucose levels from spectral measurements.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Informatics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to effectively digest scientific literature across cross-disciplinary domains.
• 5+ years of experience writing computational software using at least one compiled and one interpreted language (e.g., Python, Julia, Java, C++).
• 3+ years of experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Jax), custom model development, and stochastic optimization.
• 3+ years of experience in industry or applied environments.
• Strong understanding of linear algebra, probability theory, and calculus underlying machine learning.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with transformer architectures, self-supervised learning, and foundation models.
• Experience training and optimizing ML models for time series data (e.g., health signals, audio, video).
• Experience analyzing -omics data.
• Experience in optics or photonics.
