Process Engineer - Thin film technology (m/f) - 100%

Coherent Switzerland AG seeks a Senior Process Engineer in Zürich to optimize thin-film and etching processes for semiconductor manufacturing, ensuring quality, yield, and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Conduct dry etching for GaAs, InP, dielectric, and metal materials using ICP-RIE techniques.
• Carry out deposition methods including PECVD, ALD, sputtering, and evaporation for various material types.
• Oversee thermal treatments such as curing, annealing, alloying, and oxidation.
• Lead ongoing enhancements to product performance, process control, yield rates, and cost efficiency.
• Analyze experimental data, document outcomes, and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
• Collaborate with R&D teams to design and roll out new manufacturing processes.
• Create and update work instructions while training operators and engineers on procedures.
• Support equipment maintenance, troubleshoot daily issues, and coordinate unscheduled repairs.
• Work with tool suppliers to assess process needs, evaluate equipment upgrades, and qualify new solutions for production.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in technology with a focus on semiconductor processing.
• Hands-on experience in at least some areas such as dry etching, thin film deposition, oxidation, curing, or other thermal processes.
• Familiarity with high-volume semiconductor manufacturing workflows.
• Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DoE).
• Ability to work autonomously and collaborate effectively with operators, technicians, and engineers.
• Strong technical communication skills in both German and English.
• Result-driven, hands-on approach with initiative and a proactive attitude.
