Process & Machinery Safety Engineer

The company seeks a Process & Machinery Safety Engineer based in Orbe, Switzerland, to lead safety initiatives and ensure safe-by-design practices across R&D and industrial projects at the Coffee Product Technology Center.

Based at the Nestlé Product Technology Center for Coffee, this position focuses on advancing process and machinery safety standards. The role aims to embed safe-by-design principles into research and development as well as industrial operations, working alongside engineers, site teams, managers, and safety experts.

Responsibilities

• Spearhead safety projects to reinforce safe-by-design approaches in R&D and industrial settings.
• Conduct risk evaluations and monitor corrective actions to help teams address gaps and apply safety enhancements.
• Create and roll out safety guidelines for coffee processing, fostering collaboration among factories, engineering groups, and specialists to achieve tangible safety goals.
• Provide structure and direction for safety initiatives involving various stakeholders and locations.
• Facilitate HAZOP and ATEX studies for major technologies and processes.
• Build team expertise by mentoring staff and ensuring consistent use of safety standards.
• Support compliance through audits, reviews, and documentation updates to drive ongoing improvement.

Requirements

• Solid engineering foundation with specialized knowledge in process and machinery safety within industrial settings.
• Ability to coordinate with factories, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to establish priorities and actions.
• Familiarity with risk assessment methods, functional safety, and machinery safety design for complex systems like thermal processes, fluid networks, and automated machinery.
• Project management abilities to oversee capital projects, monitor progress, and ensure timely implementation.
• Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills to lead workshops (such as HAZOP sessions) and align stakeholders across departments.
• Fluent proficiency in English.
