Huawei Switzerland seeks a Senior Research Scientist in Zürich to optimize high-performance computing platforms for scientific simulation. This fixed-term role focuses on parallel optimization and AI infrastructure.
The company is recruiting postdoctoral researchers to build an optimization-related high-performance computing platform. The position targets foundational scientific problems in distributed and shared-memory parallel optimization, with the objective of publishing results in top-tier scientific journals. The initial contract covers one year, with potential extension based on project success.
Responsibilities
- Integrate the solver core into AI stacks, including differentiable programming frameworks and batched multipole algebra.
- Create inverse design methods directly within the space of physically admissible scattering operators.
- Lead the development of methods papers for publication in leading scientific venues.
- Manage the path from lab validation to commercial discussions.
- Select the first transfer target and demonstrate the efficiency of the method for domain-portable formalism.
Requirements
- PhD in physics, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field, or an MSc with equivalent research experience.
- Strong background in numerical linear algebra theory and tooling.
- Hands-on experience with HPC using MPI, OpenMP, and SLURM-managed clusters.
- Proficiency in AI-stack frameworks such as PyTorch and/or JAX.
- Advanced coding skills in both C++ and scientific Python.
- A track record of publications in computational physics, photonics, numerical methods, or a related area.
- Fluent English communication skills.
Nice to have
- Experience writing custom accelerator kernels using CUDA or Triton.
- Knowledge of computational electromagnetics tools like FDTD, RCWA, or FEM.
- Familiarity with nanofabrication processes, including EBL and RIE constraints.
- Experience developing ML surrogates for physical operators.
