EPFL seeks a Research Software Engineer to support a grant on self-recovering encrypted vaults, focusing on cryptographic algorithm development and software evaluation.
This position contributes to an Innosuisse-funded research initiative centered on the self-recovery of end-to-end encrypted vaults. The successful candidate will collaborate with the C4DT team to design cryptographic solutions, build software libraries, and assess their effectiveness through user testing.
Responsibilities
- Conducting experiments and performing evaluations to support ongoing research efforts
- Developing software libraries and producing comprehensive documentation
- Overseeing specific segments of the project lifecycle
- Contributing to broader C4DT initiatives, such as evaluating open-source services, maintaining servers, and organizing workshops
Requirements
- A university degree in computer science or an equivalent professional background
- Deep knowledge of cryptographic techniques, including elliptic curves, zero-knowledge proofs, and post-quantum algorithms
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Golang, Rust, and TypeScript, along with experience in test-driven development and automated deployment pipelines
- Fluent command of English for both written and verbal communication

- The ability to use large language model tools effectively as aids rather than replacements for critical thinking
- A proactive attitude toward learning emerging technologies
- Functional proficiency in French or German
