Postdoctoral Researcher

EPFL seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher for the DIAS lab in Lausanne to advance database systems research, focusing on query processing and data management on emerging hardware.

The DIAS lab at EPFL focuses on adapting data management technologies to modern computer architecture trends. The role involves designing data manipulation techniques that leverage underlying hardware and I/O devices, as well as enabling scientific discoveries through automated physical database design and advanced exploration algorithms in large data repositories. The lab is known for pioneering just-in-time query engines that support analytics on raw data, data cleaning, and query optimization for heterogeneous distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with all lab members to conduct high-quality research
• Supervise students and work alongside other postdoctoral researchers
• Participate in teaching activities, particularly for those interested in academic careers

Requirements

• Demonstrated scientific excellence and strong motivation in vector query processing, serverless or just-in-time query execution, parallel and distributed data management, and data management systems on emerging hardware
• Passion for inventing, building, and publishing high-quality database systems research
• A robust publication record and practical experience in system development
