The Idiap Research Institute seeks a Director to lead its research, education, and technology transfer missions in Martigny, with an academic affiliation at EPFL.

The Director will guide the Institute's scientific strategy and daily operations while holding a teaching position at EPFL in Lausanne. This role combines institutional leadership with academic responsibilities to shape the future of artificial intelligence research.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the execution of research, educational, and technology transfer goals while upholding the Institute's scientific standing and expanding its influence.
  • Develop and execute a long-term scientific strategy that identifies new opportunities and tackles major technological and societal issues.
  • Build and maintain organizational frameworks and partnerships that strengthen the Institute's research base, promote excellence, and cultivate future scientific leaders.
  • Foster a workplace culture that values interdisciplinary teamwork, innovation, and the responsible advancement of artificial intelligence.
  • Drive institutional growth through fundraising, strategic partnerships with academic and industrial entities, and engagement with public authorities.
  • Establish and sustain an independent, creative, and globally recognized research program focused on the Institute's core disciplines.
  • Participate in undergraduate and graduate instruction, supervision, and mentoring as part of the academic affiliation with EPFL.
