Lonza seeks an Automation Lead in Visp to manage engineering teams, standardize automation in biologics manufacturing, and align site operations with global strategy.
This position serves as the Automation Lead for the Visp Integrated Biologics and Specialized Modality divisions. The primary purpose is to oversee programs that enhance operational capabilities and standardization while acting as a bridge to connect global strategic goals with local site execution.
Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise a group of Automation Engineers, ensuring the team operates efficiently and supports key operational goals.
- Handle core line management duties such as coaching staff, providing performance evaluations, and creating development plans.
- Partner with Operations, MSAT, and Quality departments across various business platforms to synchronize automation goals with broader business strategies.
- Oversee project timelines and deliverables to satisfy the needs of Integrated Biologics and Specialized Modality operations while balancing team workload.
- Oversee a local Center of Excellence for MES and DCS Automation, collaborating with the global counterpart to harmonize automation methods in biopharma production.
- Serve as an integrator by eliminating obstacles, maintaining clear communication channels, and fostering alignment between worldwide strategy and local operations.
- Share automation expertise with design development teams.
- Offer advanced troubleshooting assistance alongside the team.
- Function as a subject matter expert for DeltaV and Syncade systems, GMP lifecycle management, and biological manufacturing processes.
- Oversee compliance activities involving multi-asset SOP assessments and CAPAs, ensuring they are closed promptly.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related discipline, or comparable professional experience.
- Minimum of five years in Biologics GMP manufacturing, including hands-on operational experience and deep familiarity with MES and DeltaV systems.
- Strong command of DeltaV, MES, and GMP manufacturing principles, along with compliance standards in automation.
- Proven track record of leading teams, achieving results, and fostering cross-departmental collaboration.
- Business acumen and a customer-focused mindset, with the ability to work effectively with others.
- Fluency in English.
