Senior BESS Quantitative Analyst

Alpiq AG seeks a Senior BESS Quantitative Analyst in Olten or Lausanne to develop battery trading algorithms and optimization models within its trading transformation.

This newly created position supports the company's ongoing transformation in the trading sector. Reporting to the Head of Quantitative Model Development, the analyst helps build the core analytics framework and bridges the gap between market insights and quantitative strategies.

Responsibilities

• Create and deploy high-performance algorithms for multi-market co-optimization and battery bidding strategies.
• Model battery degradation, efficiency losses, and operational constraints.
• Integrate forecasting inputs (price, load, renewable generation) into decision frameworks.
• Back-test and validate models using historical market and operational data.
• Improve scalability and runtime performance of optimization pipelines.
• Support and maintenance of existing tools and processes.
• Support pricing team for valuation of M&A and Tolling deals across different European markets.
• Collaborate with traders, originators to translate market insights and regulations into quantitative strategies.

Requirements

• University degree, preferably PhD, in Electrical Engineering, mathematics, physics or similar.
• 5+ years of experience in power/gas markets and knowledge of physical assets.
• Experience with (stochastic) optimization methods.
• Strong development skills (Python, Matlab, F#, or similar).
• Fluent English.
• Availability to work onsite in Lausanne or Olten.

Nice to have

• Financial theory knowledge (financial mathematics, term structure models, stochastic processes).
• Additional languages (German and/or French).
