The company seeks a Senior Compliance Officer for Trade & Economic Sanctions in Zürich. The role involves overseeing the sanctions compliance framework, providing expert advice on complex cases, and ensuring adherence to global regulations within an international environment.

This position supports the Financial Crime Team within Group Compliance, reporting directly to the Head of Financial Crime. The role is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the Trade & Economic Sanctions Compliance framework for the Zurich Insurance Group. The successful candidate will collaborate in a truly international environment with many experts.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, interpret, and translate global sanctions developments into actionable guidance for business units.
  • Act as a central subject matter expert providing risk-based advice on complex, high-risk sanctions cases.
  • Review and provide assessment on referred sanctions cases involving sanctioned countries, persons, or indirect exposure.
  • Lead the assessment of new regulations and executive orders, including extraterritorial impacts.
  • Define and maintain global sanctions screening standards, including screening lists and baseline rules.
  • Oversee and challenge sanctions screening effectiveness, including testing and periodic reviews.
  • Provide second-line oversight and guidance across the full lifecycle of high-risk cases.
  • Advise on and coordinate responses to sanctions breaches, regulatory inquiries, and licensing matters.
  • Collaborate closely with Group Legal and external counsel on complex or conflicting legal scenarios.
  • Deliver training, communication, and ongoing support to business units and local compliance teams.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experiences in Compliance with a focus on Financial Crime and Sanctions.
  • Demonstrable hands-on responsibility for the design, implementation and oversight of Sanctions frameworks and controls.
  • Strong background in relevant laws & regulations (US, UK, UN, EU and Swiss) as well as industry standards.
  • Proven experience in applying multi-jurisdictional sanctions regimes in practice.
  • Proven track record in managing complex sanctions topics, including screening, investigations, escalations, licensing/authorities engagement.
  • Strong analytical skills with economics/finance/business administration/law and background.
  • Fluent written and spoken English is essential.

  • Experience ideally in the insurance sector.
  • Experience ideally within an international insurance group.
  • Preferably with a Master’s degree in economics/finance/business administration/law.
