Senior Data Engineer (Python & AI)

Etops Group AG seeks a Senior Data Engineer in Cham to build scalable data applications and AI solutions using Python, SQL, and modern orchestration tools.

This position focuses on creating the next generation of data-driven products and AI-powered applications for the company. The engineer will directly influence tools utilized by thousands of financial professionals throughout Europe, ensuring these platforms are robust, scalable, and insightful.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve data-centric applications primarily using Python and Streamlit.
• Process complex datasets and craft efficient SQL queries to extract meaningful insights.
• Manage and refine data pipelines through the use of Airflow.
• Develop and integrate Machine Learning models and LLM-based features, such as RAG and vector search capabilities.
• Enhance analytics and BI performance by optimizing SQL queries and underlying data models.
• Deliver production-quality software adhering to contemporary engineering standards.
• Work closely with Product, BI, Software Engineering teams, and business stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least five years of professional experience creating production-grade applications with Python.
• Proven track record in developing data-driven applications, preferably with Streamlit.
• Advanced SQL proficiency and deep knowledge of relational databases like PostgreSQL or Oracle.
• Practical experience with Airflow or comparable orchestration frameworks.
• Hands-on background in Machine Learning, LLMs, or Generative AI.
• Strong familiarity with Git/GitHub, code review processes, and modern CI/CD workflows.
• Competence in using Docker and contemporary development environments.
• Fluent command of both German and English.

Nice to have

• Experience with Elasticsearch.
• Ability to extend Streamlit applications using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform and/or Microsoft Azure.
• Knowledge of dbt and modern data transformation practices.
• Proficiency with pandas, Polars, PySpark, and pytest.
• Experience with Agentic AI, vector databases (e.g. pgvector), and production-ready RAG solutions.
• Background in building or consuming REST APIs.
• Understanding of Data Governance, Security, and Compliance in data-driven environments.
