Senior Software Engineer - Distributed Systems

Decentriq seeks a Senior Software Engineer in Zürich to lead distributed data and ML pipelines, ensuring resilience and privacy-preserving analytics for secure data collaboration.

As a key individual contributor within the engineering team, this position focuses on the end-to-end ownership of analytics and machine learning workflows. The role is designed to enhance system resilience while advancing the capabilities of privacy-preserving machine learning in a secure data-collaboration environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full lifecycle of data pipelines built with pandas and Spark, covering development, deployment, and ongoing monitoring.
• Develop and deploy models for AdTech applications, including look-alike modeling, audience expansion, and campaign measurement.
• Ensure high reliability by implementing robust source-level validation, comprehensive testing, and self-healing job mechanisms.
• Collaborate with data scientists, backend engineers using Rust, and product teams to deliver complete features.
• Utilize LLM-based coding assistants, design generators, and automated testing tools to accelerate delivery and improve code quality.
• Optimize Spark performance through profiling and benchmarking, while establishing best practices for orchestration and observability to maintain a modern tech stack.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• At least five years of professional experience in the field.
• Expert proficiency in Python, along with strong practical experience in pandas, PySpark, Scala Spark, and distributed data processing.
• Demonstrated history of constructing resilient, production-ready data pipelines that include strict data quality and validation protocols.
• Experience operating workloads on platforms such as Databricks, Spark on Kubernetes, or other cloud and on-premise big-data environments.

Nice to have

• Understanding of the machine learning lifecycle and model serving, particularly regarding audience segmentation or look-alike modeling techniques.
• Familiarity with privacy-enhancing technologies such as confidential computing, secure enclaves, or homomorphic encryption.
• Proficiency in the Rust programming language.
• Skills in managing Spark clusters, job schedulers, or orchestration frameworks like Airflow, Dagster, or custom solutions.
