Senior / Staff Documentation Engineer (AI & Docs Tooling)

TetraScience · Basel

TetraScience seeks a Senior/Staff Documentation Engineer to build and maintain documentation systems and AI-augmented workflows for its scientific data platform. This role focuses on tooling, automation, and content engineering rather than traditional writing.

TetraScience is developing Tetra OS, an operating system designed for scientific intelligence. This position centers on creating the documentation infrastructure that enables users—from bench scientists to platform engineers—to interact with the platform. As AI agents increasingly consume this content, the role emphasizes building robust systems and tooling to structure, publish, and optimize documentation for both human readers and machine consumption.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the documentation site as a software product, including maintaining the docs-as-code repository, CI/CD pipelines, build performance, and automated quality checks.
  • Develop and expand AI-augmented documentation workflows, such as AI-assisted drafting, summarization, classification, and consistency checks, while ensuring human oversight.
  • Structure and transform content to support AI agents, enabling reliable chunking, indexing, and reasoning, and maintain MCP-style interfaces for accurate agent consumption.
  • Generate reference documentation from source specifications like OpenAPI and ensure alignment with platform code changes.
  • Reduce barriers for internal contributors to publish documentation through the docs-as-code workflow and automate repetitive tasks.
  • Manage the release notes and customer communications cadence, including SME reviews to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain the documentation style guide, oversee the review-and-publish process, and keep the team runbook up to date to ensure operational resilience.

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience owning documentation tooling, content engineering, or developer documentation for a developer platform or enterprise B2B product.
  • Proficiency in scripting or web stacks (e.g., Python, TypeScript, JavaScript) and hands-on experience with docs-as-code practices, including Git, pull-request reviews, CI/CD, and static-site or CMS publishing pipelines.
  • Practical experience building AI-augmented or LLM-backed workflows, including integrating LLM APIs, AI-assisted authoring, and structuring content for AI consumption.
  • Ability to read and reason about codebases and API surfaces to document them accurately and build corresponding tooling.
  • Strong editorial judgment to translate dense engineering changes into clear, correct, and customer-safe documentation.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

  • Experience making documentation consumable by AI agents, including knowledge of llms.txt, content negotiation, RAG pipelines, or MCP servers.
  • Background in BioPharma, scientific software, or regulated and validated (GxP) environments.
  • Experience generating reference documentation from OpenAPI or related specifications with two-way Git sync.
  • Exposure to developer relations or developer education.

What the company offers

  • Competitive salary and equity in a fast-growing company.
  • Supportive, team-oriented culture focused on continuous improvement.
  • Generous paid time off (PTO).
  • Flexible working arrangements, including remote work options.
