Sonar seeks a Senior Software Technical Writer in Geneva to lead developer documentation for SonarQube, shaping content strategy and tooling within a hybrid team.

This position is designed for a Senior or Staff Technical Writer to join the Sonar documentation team. The individual will take ownership of all developer-facing content for the SonarQube product suite. Beyond writing, the role involves defining the discipline of documentation, including making tooling choices and establishing style and structural standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create, update, and manage high-quality technical materials for developers, such as getting-started guides, how-to articles, conceptual overviews, and release notes.
  • Execute a docs-as-code workflow using Markdown and Git, including submitting pull requests, reviewing changes, and running documentation through continuous integration pipelines.
  • Leverage AI assistants to speed up research, drafting, and content audits while maintaining strict responsibility for the accuracy and quality of the final output.
  • Partner with engineering teams to document new features promptly, utilizing specifications, early builds, and code review feedback.
  • Ensure code samples are functional, compile correctly, and remain aligned with product updates.
  • Review existing documentation to enhance accuracy, completeness, structure, and tone.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the team’s style guide, information architecture, and content standards.
  • Mentor fellow writers and act as a technical resource for documentation-related inquiries from engineering staff.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience producing technical content tailored for developer audiences.
  • Proficiency in docs-as-code practices, including Markdown, Git (branching, PRs, rebasing), and repository management.
  • Strong background in software development or DevOps, with the ability to work in various programming languages.
  • Comfortable integrating AI tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot) into workflows, with a critical approach to validating generated content.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and product teams to deliver documentation alongside feature releases.
  • Strong understanding of information architecture, distinguishing between tutorials, how-tos, references, and conceptual content.

Nice to have

  • Solid grasp of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience writing documentation for agentic software development life cycles.
  • Familiarity with code quality, security, and testing concepts such as SAST, DAST, code coverage, and vulnerability management.
  • Ability to read, write, and debug code.
