Anthropic seeks a Senior/Staff Security Engineer for Threat Intelligence in Zürich. The role focuses on anticipating threats from nation-state and criminal actors targeting AI labs through hands-on research, tooling, and threat hunting.
As part of the Detection & Response team, this position operates within a compact, high-impact group tasked with predicting and mitigating risks from sophisticated adversaries. The role provides significant autonomy to design and refine threat intelligence workflows while directly supporting the company's mission to develop safe AI systems.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and document threat actors and campaigns aimed at AI research facilities, cloud platforms, and the wider tech industry.
- Create and manage automated systems for gathering, enriching, and applying indicators of compromise.
- Conduct proactive threat hunts using data from endpoints, cloud environments, identity systems, and SaaS applications.
- Analyze malware, phishing setups, and attacker tools to identify tactics, techniques, procedures, and attribution clues.
- Collaborate with Detection Engineering and Incident Response teams to convert intelligence into detection rules, hunting ideas, and incident context.
- Manage incoming intelligence from commercial feeds, open-source sources, government agencies, and trusted peer networks.
- Support threat modeling and risk assessments to guide security architecture and defensive spending.
- Establish and maintain external intelligence-sharing partnerships with peer organizations, ISACs, and government entities.
Requirements
- Proven experience in cyber threat intelligence, threat hunting, or intrusion analysis within environments facing advanced adversaries.
- Extensive knowledge of specific nation-state or advanced criminal threat actors, including their tooling, infrastructure patterns, tradecraft, and targeting.
- Strong engineering capabilities, including production-quality Python (or similar), automation, data pipelines, and end-to-end tooling development.
- Proficiency in malware analysis, infrastructure analysis (passive DNS, certificate pivoting, netflow), and log analysis.
- Experience writing detection logic (YARA, Sigma, Snort/Suricata, or SIEM-native queries) and understanding durable vs. brittle detections.
- Ability to write clearly and concisely for intelligence products that are read and acted on.
Nice to have
- Existing network in the threat intelligence community and experience sharing intelligence productively.
- Experience defending cloud-native and research-heavy environments (AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, ML infrastructure, developer tooling and supply chain).
- Prior work in a threat intelligence role tracking sophisticated or state-sponsored adversaries, where analysis informed detection, threat hunting, and incident response.
- Experience applying LLMs or other AI tooling to accelerate intelligence collection, enrichment, and analysis.
- Public research, conference talks, or open-source tooling contributions in the CTI space.
What the company offers
- Competitive compensation and benefits.
- Optional equity donation matching.
