Soverli AG seeks a Mid-level Software Engineer for Android OS (AOSP) in Zürich. The role focuses on Android internals, system services, and platform security within a multi-OS smartphone environment.

This position centers on Android's internal architecture, specifically system services, hardware abstraction layers, and platform security. The engineer will define how Android operates within a secure environment where several operating system instances run simultaneously on a single device.

Responsibilities

  • Modify and expand the Android Open Source Project at the framework, system, and runtime levels.
  • Connect hardware abstraction layers to system services and core platform components.
  • Develop operating system-level privacy and security mechanisms.
  • Improve memory efficiency, system speed, and power management in complex multi-OS configurations.
  • Troubleshoot system behavior using Android services, logs, and performance traces.
  • Collaborate with kernel, firmware, and driver teams to guarantee smooth hardware-software integration.
  • Support continuous integration, automated testing, and the Android build infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Proficient in C/C++ programming, with working knowledge of Java/Kotlin in system-level contexts.
  • Deep understanding of AOSP internals, including Binder IPC, system services, and HALs.
  • Hands-on experience in Android platform development, device bring-up, or custom ROM creation.
  • Practical expertise with low-level debugging utilities like logcat and systrace.
  • Solid grasp of core OS principles: processes, memory management, scheduling, and security boundaries.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Fluent English proficiency and strong communication abilities.

Nice to have

  • Prior contributions to AOSP or Android security and privacy initiatives.
  • Background working with Android connectivity or power subsystems.
  • Experience building and maintaining custom Android ROMs.
