Software Engineer, Cloud AI Research, Co-Scientist

Google seeks a mid-level Software Engineer in Zürich to develop agentic AI systems that accelerate scientific discovery across industries.

This position sits within a research group dedicated to advancing scientific breakthroughs through Artificial Intelligence. The team focuses on building systems capable of conducting literature reviews, analyzing data, and generating and validating hypotheses. These efforts support Google Cloud’s broader goal of integrating AI into sectors such as healthcare, finance, and retail.

Responsibilities

• Manage projects from initial concept and prototyping through to final deployment and performance analysis.
• Create, implement, and scale agentic AI architectures, including robust tool-use capabilities and multi-agent tournament workflows.
• Develop evaluation pipelines and curate diagnostic datasets to systematically measure the accuracy and progress of agentic systems.

Requirements

• Experience with AI and machine learning technologies.
• Proficiency in designing agentic AI systems.
• Knowledge of multi-agent tournament workflows.
• Ability to build system evaluation pipelines.
