System Engineer (Database Administrator)

Avaloq seeks a Mid-Senior System Engineer for database administration in Bioggio. The role involves managing enterprise database environments, handling migrations, and ensuring system reliability across hybrid teams.

This position centers on the stewardship, development, and transition of corporate database systems. The professional will enable vital applications and drive organizational transformation efforts by maintaining robust data infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Manage Oracle Database systems, covering setup, configuration, updates, and full lifecycle oversight.
• Maintain supplementary database platforms like PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, and various NoSQL frameworks.
• Lead database migration efforts, including version upgrades, platform shifts, cloud transitions, and consolidation projects.
• Orchestrate on-premise to cloud transitions for services such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, AWS, or Azure.
• Facilitate heterogeneous migrations between distinct database technologies while preserving data integrity, speed, and service continuity.
• Deploy and sustain high-availability and disaster recovery mechanisms, utilizing Oracle Data Guard, RAC, and comparable tools for other platforms.
• Establish and carry out backup, restoration, and recovery protocols for diverse database systems.
• Track and refine database performance, storage allocation, and resource usage.
• Resolve incidents, performance bottlenecks, replication errors, and application issues tied to database operations.
• Partner with infrastructure, application, and project groups to architect database solutions that meet business and technical needs.
• Generate technical documentation, operational guides, migration blueprints, and handover resources.
• Drive automation and standardization efforts for database provisioning, patching, and deployment.

Requirements

• Minimum four years of experience as a Database Administrator, heavily focused on Oracle Database.
• Practical background in managing Oracle databases within large-scale enterprise settings.
• Proven track record in database migrations, upgrades, platform transformations, and cloud transition projects.
• Deep expertise in performance tuning, SQL optimization, backup and recovery, business continuity, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), cloud-native database services, and migration utilities.
• Working knowledge of at least one other database technology such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, or MongoDB.
• Solid grasp of Linux/Unix systems, scripting, and automation tools like Ansible or Terraform.
• Understanding of database security, access control, and auditing standards.
• Oracle certification (OCP or equivalent) is required.
• Background in regulated sectors like financial services, insurance, or similar enterprise environments.
• Experience with containerized environments and Kubernetes platforms.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities in English.
