System Engineer - Infrastructure Automation 100% (f/m/d)

Julius Bär seeks a Senior System Engineer in Zürich to lead infrastructure automation efforts using vRealize and Crossplane, focusing on scalable, self-service platforms for product teams.

This position supports the company’s goal of expanding infrastructure automation by designing and delivering solutions that replace manual processes with automated, self-service offerings. The role provides technical leadership to help product teams independently manage their infrastructure and resource requirements through scalable, DevOps-driven platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy automation solutions leveraging vRealize (Aria) Automation and/or Crossplane.
  • Create and maintain vRealize (Aria) Orchestrator workflows, and develop Crossplane providers and functions using Golang and the Kubernetes Operator pattern.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align automation initiatives with business goals and technical strategies.
  • Provide technical guidance to the team and help shape technical roadmaps and strategic plans.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues related to vRealize Automation and Orchestration, and suggest improvements.
  • Monitor industry trends in cloud computing, virtualization, and automation to enhance existing solutions.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, including design specifications, implementation guides, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure all work adheres to industry standards, best practices, and internal policies.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience designing, implementing, and managing automation solutions with vRealize (Aria) Automation in large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience developing and operating Kubernetes Operators, preferably using Golang and the Crossplane framework to provision and reconcile resources.
  • Deep expertise in Kubernetes and the cloud-native computing ecosystem.
  • Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, including Windows, Linux, Active Directory, and Cisco technologies.
  • Solid understanding of cloud computing, virtualization, and automation tools like VMware vSphere, vCenter, and NSX.
  • Familiarity with software development processes, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps tools.
  • Understanding of IT service management frameworks like ITIL, along with experience in agile methodologies and version control systems such as Git.
  • Proficiency in Golang and scripting languages like JavaScript, PowerShell, or Python.
  • Proven ability to lead technical projects and teams, managing multiple stakeholders and vendors.
  • A degree or background in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Nice to have

  • Experience with developing and operating Kubernetes Operators using Golang and the Crossplane framework for resource provisioning and reconciliation.
