The Blockchain & Climate Institute seeks a volunteer Director of Programmes to lead cross-divisional projects, drive sustainability initiatives, and coordinate global teams remotely from Europe or the UK.
Reporting to the Chief of Staff, this volunteer role focuses on aligning programme strategies with the institute’s mission to combat climate change through blockchain technology. The position requires coordinating diverse global teams, managing cross-divisional projects, and fostering collaboration among research, communications, and capacity-building divisions.
Responsibilities
- Create and execute programme strategies, implementation plans, and evaluation frameworks that align with the institute’s broader goals.
- Manage cross-divisional project coordination, ensuring seamless collaboration among research, communications, and capacity-building teams.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to maximize synergy and project impact.
- Cultivate a collaborative, inclusive work environment that encourages knowledge sharing, effective communication, and critical reflection.
- Define key milestones and facilitate collective learning and reflection across divisions and with project partners.
- Collaborate with senior management to anticipate risks, develop mitigation strategies, and address potential issues during project execution.
- Resolve conflicts and implement solution-oriented approaches to challenges that arise during project implementation.
- Develop and oversee a programme team responsible for execution, monitoring, and reporting.
- Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate project status, achievements, and challenges to stakeholders.
- Identify and evaluate new institute-level project opportunities.
- Integrate cross-divisional programme planning and project management practices.
Requirements
- Proven experience leading and managing sustainability initiatives and projects.
- Ability to build constructive relationships with diverse stakeholders, including UN agencies, governments, academia, corporations, and civil society.
- A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in international development, sustainability, computer science, environmental studies, business administration, or project management.
- Working knowledge of UN climate change processes, inter-governmental mechanisms, technology transfer, and related funding structures.
- Strong understanding of climate change, sustainability, climate finance, and blockchain technology.
- Familiarity with the business aspects of blockchain and climate actions, including market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and funding opportunities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management applications.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, inspire, delegate, and coordinate team members effectively.
- Ability to analyze complex problems, identify innovative solutions, and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent project management and interpersonal skills.
- Capacity to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Self-accountability for managing work and meeting project delivery deadlines.
