responsAbility seeks a Senior Investment Officer to lead direct lending and climate finance initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa, based in Cape Town.
This position supports the company’s Direct Lending platform by expanding climate finance activities across Sub-Saharan Africa and other emerging markets. The incumbent will focus on originating and structuring debt transactions with climate-focused entities while helping to shape the regional investment strategy.
Responsibilities
- Identify and source debt investment opportunities in sectors such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate-relevant infrastructure, e-mobility, and food systems.
- Manage the full lifecycle of deals, including sourcing, due diligence, financial modeling, credit appraisal, and legal documentation.
- Structure and negotiate debt and debt-like transactions to align with the risk and return profiles of responsAbility-managed funds.
- Prepare and present investment proposals to internal decision-making bodies.
- Lead negotiations for legal documentation, collaborating with legal advisors as needed.
- Provide thematic expertise on relevant market segments and technologies.
- Grow the sector-specific network throughout the region by engaging with key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to further develop the investment strategy for Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Coordinate with teams in Cape Town, Mumbai, Tbilisi, and Zurich.
Requirements
- At least eight years of investment experience within the climate finance sector.
- A postgraduate degree in economics, business administration, finance, or a related field from a reputable academic institution.
- Demonstrated experience in executing structured debt or equity deals in climate finance.
- Extensive background in leading due diligence processes in emerging markets.
- Excellent proficiency in business English.
