User Experience Designer

Roche seeks a Senior User Experience Designer in Basel to lead visual analytics initiatives within its Advanced Analytics Center of Excellence, translating complex data into intuitive interfaces.

This position operates within the visualization team of the Advanced Analytics for Business Insights (AABI) Center of Excellence in GPS. The team is responsible for providing strategic vision and hands-on leadership in visual analytics to create high-impact business insights. GPS drives business strategy from research through to commercialization, requiring close collaboration across the entire organization.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize AI-driven UX/UI tools to accelerate the transition from initial concepts to high-fidelity mock-ups.
  • Facilitate rapid prototyping and make real-time visual adjustments to designs.
  • Serve as the strategic focal point for cross-functional squads, aligning stakeholders without relying on hierarchical authority.
  • Convert mixed, technical, and sometimes conflicting inputs into elegant, accessible, and intuitive visual analytics solutions.
  • Act as the visual architect for analytical projects, guiding teams through complex user experience challenges.
  • Collaborate with development teams, business analysts, project managers, scrum masters, and end-users.
  • Focus on delivering outcomes that maximize business value while engaging in peer mentorship, coaching, and advocacy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in UX design or visual analytics.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
  • An online portfolio showcasing high-impact analytical dashboards, complex data visualizations, or mobile/web data applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using AI utilities to optimize workflow efficiency.
  • Proven experience with visual analytics platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, Thoughtspot, D3.js, iOS apps, and web apps built with R (Shiny) or Python (Dash/Streamlit).
  • Deep familiarity with global pharmaceutical data streams.
  • Strong influence skills to champion ideas and rally cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, managing tight timelines through agile methodology.
  • Exceptional communication skills to distill complex data concepts for executive stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to undertake required business travel.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of primary market research or clinical/medical research data.
