Julius Bär seeks a Valuation Controller in Zürich to oversee fair value measurements and safeguard financial statement integrity under IFRS 13.
This position sits within the Product Control division, supporting the bank’s trading and treasury operations. The role acts as an independent second-line-of-defence, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of fair value measurements for financial instruments while providing critical oversight of the bank’s financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Head of Valuation Control in managing daily tasks and improving the overall valuation control framework.
- Lead key workstreams related to valuation control and prudent valuation adjustments (PVA), covering analysis, reporting, documentation, and issue resolution.
- Perform and support independent price verification (IPV), valuation adjustment reviews, fair value controls, and assessments of valuation uncertainty.
- Investigate valuation discrepancies, price testing results, model or input limitations, data quality issues, and primary drivers of valuation adjustments.
- Work closely with Product Control, Front Office, Market Risk, Model Risk, Finance, Regulatory Reporting, and Technology to maintain strong valuation governance.
- Prepare and present materials on valuation control and PVA for management meetings, valuation committees, audits, and regulatory discussions.
- Help develop and maintain methodology documentation, control designs, operating procedures, and governance standards.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives, automation projects, and control enhancements across valuation control activities.
- Use Python, Dataiku, or similar tools to enhance data analysis, streamline reporting, and improve control efficiency.
- Act as a subject matter expert and escalation point for valuation control, PVA, and valuation uncertainty matters within the team.
Requirements
- University degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Quantitative Finance, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- At least three years of experience in Valuation (Risk) Control, IPV, PVA, Market Risk, or a comparable banking control role.
- Strong technical knowledge of valuation control, independent price verification (IPV), fair value governance, valuation adjustments (PVA), and valuation uncertainty.
- Practical experience with prudent valuation frameworks and adjustment methodologies.
- Deep understanding of financial instruments, including fixed income, rates, credit, FX, derivatives, structured products, and treasury instruments.
- Business fluency in English.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of German or other languages is considered an advantage.
