Workflow Automation Expert

Novartis seeks a Senior Workflow Automation Expert in Basel to design scalable automation solutions, mentor teams, and drive innovation in regulated life sciences environments.

This position focuses on creating and implementing automation strategies that minimize manual tasks and enhance the reliability of essential business and scientific processes. The expert serves as a key advisor and mentor, helping to establish automation capabilities and fostering an innovative culture within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Manage the complete lifecycle of automation projects, starting with process identification and ending with deployment and optimization.
• Develop scalable automation systems utilizing business process management and robotic process automation tools.
• Convert business and user requirements into efficient, automation-centric solutions that boost reliability and cut down on manual work.
• Partner with cross-functional groups to spot high-value automation opportunities.
• Guarantee that all automated solutions comply with enterprise security, governance, and compliance standards.
• Work with business, technical, and operational teams to ensure widespread adoption and measurable results.
• Use systems thinking to analyze, model, and redesign processes to prepare them for automation.
• Serve as a hands-on subject matter expert and mentor to build automation and process skills across teams.
• Advocate for best practices, frameworks, and reusable solutions to raise the organization's automation maturity.
• Support a culture of rapid delivery and continuous improvement, leveraging artificial intelligence-enabled approaches.

Requirements

• Over seven years of experience in designing and delivering end-to-end workflow automation solutions.
• Demonstrated success in translating business needs into scalable automation solutions using business process management and robotic process automation technologies.
• Strong systems thinking abilities, with a track record of analyzing and redesigning complex processes for automation.
• A curious mindset that drives continuous improvement and change.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across business, technical, and operational teams.
• Proven ability to influence stakeholders without formal authority in a complex, matrixed environment.
• Practical understanding of artificial intelligence and its application within automation or transformation initiatives.
• Experience working within life sciences, pharmaceutical, or similarly regulated, complex environments.

Nice to have

• Experience in pharmaceutical drug discovery or supporting scientific research workflows.
• Experience mentoring or developing others to build capability in automation, process engineering or artificial intelligence.
