Hexagon Robotics seeks a Mid-level 3D Asset Artist in Zürich to build simulation-ready 3D libraries for humanoid robots, supporting training and synthetic data generation.
The company develops humanoid robots for industrial use to help address labor shortages and move from automation toward autonomy. In this position, you will create and maintain the 3D asset library that enables training, testing, and synthetic data generation for the AEON humanoid robot.
Responsibilities
- Manage the entire 3D asset workflow, from ingesting source data to deploying it into simulation-ready scenes.
- Convert customer assets from CAD formats (STEP, JT, IGES) and digital content creation tools into optimized OpenUSD files.
- Create 3D models and environments based on CAD data or photos, ranging from individual industrial equipment to full scenes.
- Prepare assets for simulation by defining collision meshes, physical materials, mass, inertia, articulations, joints, and semantic labels.
- Optimize assets for real-time performance using LODs, instancing, and texture management.
- Organize USD layers, references, payloads, and variants to ensure a consistent and reusable asset library.
- Define and maintain asset standards, naming conventions, and pipeline tools.
- Work with perception, simulation, and MLOps engineers to ensure assets support physics, sensor simulation, and synthetic data needs.
Requirements
- A degree or equivalent professional experience in 3D art, technical art, or industrial design.
- Practical experience with OpenUSD, including references, payloads, variants, and layers.
- Proficiency in creating 3D assets using Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max.
- Ability to write Python scripts for asset pipelines, batch processing, or USD tooling.
- Strong attention to scale and hierarchy, with experience cleaning up imported CAD or engineering data.
Nice to have
- Direct experience with NVIDIA Isaac Sim or Omniverse, or equivalent platforms.
- Experience with other 3D game engines such as Unity or Unreal.
- Familiarity with SimReady asset specifications.
- Knowledge of real-time asset constraints, including poly budgets, LODs, instancing, and texture optimization.
- Exposure to robotics concepts like URDF and kinematics, as well as physics modeling including collisions, articulations, and solvers.
What the company offers
- Flexible working hours and a hybrid work model.
- 25–30 days of vacation, depending on age.
- CHF 500 mobility credit for sustainable commuting.
- Bonus system and strong pension contributions.
- Tailored training and development opportunities.
- Relocation support for a smooth start.
- Discounts on health, mobility, and entertainment.
- Team events and a flat hierarchy where your voice counts.
