Robotics Electrical Engineer

CDDS AG seeks a Robotics Electrical Engineer in Zürich to design electronic hardware and system architecture for C-UAV platforms within a hands-on team.

This position focuses on the creation and development of electronic hardware for C-UAV platforms, including ownership of the overall electrical system architecture. The engineer will join a dedicated group managing all electrical subsystems necessary for real-world drone deployments.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical components such as voltage regulators and power distribution units for drones.
• Develop and validate electronic circuits and PCBs for flight controllers, sensors, and embedded systems.
• Write software packages for embedded systems and their interfaces.
• Integrate and calibrate various sensors including IMUs, GPS, cameras, LiDAR, and magnetometers.
• Establish communication systems to ensure reliable telemetry and data transmission.
• Perform hardware testing and validation under real-world conditions and environmental stress.
• Document design specifications and coordinate with mechanical and software teams for seamless integration.

Requirements

• Strong proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design using tools like Altium, KiCad, or Eagle.
• Experience with rapid prototyping and iterative testing methodologies.
• Familiarity with embedded systems and interfaces such as MCUs, SPI, I2C, UART, and CAN.
• Solid programming skills in Python and/or C++.
• Ability to work autonomously and solve complex technical challenges.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• MSc in Electrical Engineering or a similar field with a strong academic record from institutions like ETH Zürich or a University of Applied Sciences.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with flight controllers and avionics stacks such as PX4, ArduPilot, or custom FCs.
• Experience with EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
• Knowledge of electrical components for multicopters including ESCs, sensors, and PDBs.
• Experience with sourcing electrical components.
