Assistant Professorship tenure track for Climate Research

UZH seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor for Climate Research in Zürich. The role focuses on strengthening the Department of Geography through high-impact research, bilingual teaching, and student supervision.

This position is designed to enhance the scientific influence and societal contribution of the Department of Geography at UZH. The successful candidate will lead independent research initiatives while shaping the future of the university through innovative, research-based teaching methods.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction at both Bachelor and Master levels within Geography and Earth Systems Science.
  • Lead courses covering atmospheric fundamentals, climate impacts, statistical analysis, or extreme weather events.
  • Provide instruction in both English and German.
  • Mentor and supervise Master’s and PhD candidates in areas aligned with the candidate’s expertise.
  • Execute high-quality independent research projects.
  • Support and promote the development of junior researchers.
  • Secure external funding for research activities.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in English and German for teaching, or a strong commitment to learning German.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous independent research.
  • Capacity to foster the growth of early-career scientists.
  • Collaborative approach to working with university administrative bodies.
  • Commitment to advancing the university through innovative, research-driven education.
