The CERN Pension Fund Governing Board seeks an external professional expert to help oversee a CHF 4.6 billion defined benefit pension scheme for over 7,000 members. This senior contract role requires extensive experience in large-scale pension governance, risk management, and asset oversight.
The CERN Pension Fund Governing Board (PFGB) is overseeing two vacancies for external professional experts to support the governance of a large, funded defined benefit pension scheme. The Board is assisted by an Actuarial & Technical Committee and an Investment Committee, and these experts will help ensure the fund continues to provide pension and disability benefits to members of CERN and the European Southern Observatory.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the actuarial health and status of the fund on an ongoing basis.
- Review and evaluate the fund's Annual Report and Financial Statements.
- Approve key documents including the Statement of Investment Principles, Investment Guidelines, Risk Limits, and Strategic Asset Allocation.
- Review and approve the internal audit plan.
- Ensure all decisions are made in the best interests of the pension fund.
- Adhere strictly to the CERN Code of Conduct and the Pension Fund Implementation Guidelines.
Requirements
- Proven, extensive experience managing the assets and liabilities of large pension funds or similar long-term institutional investors, such as endowments, foundations, or sovereign wealth funds.
- Academic or professional qualifications, along with practical experience, in areas like corporate or pension fund governance, actuarial science, asset management, portfolio construction, financial reporting, risk management, global custody, auditing, or pensions administration.
