BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. (Swiss Office) seeks a Country Director for China to oversee all commercial, financial, and strategic operations within the region on a full-time, on-site basis.

This executive role is tasked with steering the entire commercial landscape for China, encompassing revenue generation, expense management, and team leadership. The individual will define and execute strategies to expand the product portfolio, navigate complex regulatory environments, and foster key relationships with health authorities and medical professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with health authorities, reimbursement agencies, physicians, pharmacists, and patient advocacy groups.
  • Track macro-level health policy shifts and implement actions to protect and expand regional market share.
  • Direct all marketing and promotional strategies for BioMarin’s products within the assigned sub-region.
  • Ensure strict adherence to local regulatory requirements and internal corporate compliance policies.
  • Identify, develop, and manage local marketing and distribution partners.
  • Lead employee development, focusing on talent engagement and succession planning.
  • Provide strategic guidance for market development initiatives in the designated area.
  • Influence reimbursement planning and support successful product launches for licensed or marketed items.
  • Oversee pricing strategies, forecasts, and overall expenditure management.
  • Develop budgets and conduct strategic reviews of business plans.
  • Create performance strategies to establish new business development connections and grow the product portfolio.
  • Proactively cultivate market specialty interests to support the pipeline.
  • Foster strong collaborations with BioMarin center functions to ensure overall success.
  • Operate effectively within a cross-continental, matrixed organization spanning multiple time zones.
  • Report pharmacovigilance issues to BioMarin Drug Safety according to local requirements and standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with other leaders to drive the commercial organization’s overall performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Life Sciences.
  • Fluency in both English and Mandarin.
  • At least 10 years of management experience in the pharmaceutical market, plus operational experience.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in marketing and sales, with a track record of advancing responsibility.
  • Deep knowledge of local regulations, reimbursement structures, and pricing policies.
  • Strong understanding of the healthcare system.
  • Proficiency in developing and aligning business plans strategically.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and adjust business strategies accordingly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Skill in leading initiatives, advocating for programs, and presenting data-backed arguments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all organizational levels.
  • Willingness and ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Competence in leading indirectly through others.
