Data Engineer - Snowflake Expert

Orange Business Digital Switzerland SA seeks a Senior Data Engineer with deep Snowflake expertise to design scalable cloud data platforms and ensure robust data governance in Meyrin.

This position focuses on architecting and maintaining a modern cloud data infrastructure centered on Snowflake. The engineer will partner with data architects, analysts, and business leaders to create reliable, scalable, and well-governed data products that support organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Create and sustain scalable data pipelines and transformation workflows within Snowflake.
  • Develop efficient, reusable data models to support analytics and reporting needs.
  • Combine structured and semi-structured data from various sources into the platform.
  • Tune Snowflake queries, storage, and compute resources to optimize performance and control costs.
  • Establish automated controls for data quality and continuous monitoring.
  • Maintain strict data security, governance, lineage tracking, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in CI/CD workflows and deployment automation efforts.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex data and performance challenges.
  • Set engineering standards, perform code reviews, and mentor fellow data engineers.
  • Convert business requirements into solid technical implementations.

Requirements

  • Proven background in data engineering and building modern data platforms.
  • Deep practical knowledge of Snowflake, including advanced SQL and data modeling techniques.
  • Strong ability to tune Snowflake performance and optimize queries.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake features such as virtual warehouses, stages, streams, tasks, and Snowpipe.
  • Expertise in implementing role-based access control and security measures within Snowflake.
  • Skill in monitoring and optimizing Snowflake costs.
  • Solid grasp of ETL/ELT architectures and data modeling principles.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python programming.
  • Experience using orchestration and data integration tools.
  • Familiarity with Git, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD practices.
  • Good understanding of data quality, observability, governance, and security frameworks.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Nice to have

  • Prior work in private banking, wealth management, energy, or commodity trading, with knowledge of related business processes, data domains, and regulations.
  • Practical experience with dbt, including model development, incremental models, snapshots, macros, testing, documentation, and CI/CD integration.
  • Knowledge of Data Vault 2.0 and metadata-driven automation patterns, including generating and loading hubs, links, satellites, and business vault models.
  • Experience with AWS services like S3, IAM, Lambda, Glue, EventBridge, and CloudWatch.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, particularly Terraform.
  • Snowflake, dbt, or AWS certifications.
