Data Scientist, Marketing Analytics

Sonar · Genève

SonarSource seeks a Mid-level Data Scientist for Marketing Analytics in Geneva. The role focuses on transforming marketing data into actionable decisions, partnering with cross-functional teams to optimize spend and drive growth.

This position serves as the dedicated analytical partner for the Marketing department within the Data & Insights team. The primary objective is to convert marketing data into strategic decisions by diagnosing performance issues, explaining underlying causes, and advising on future investment priorities. The role requires close collaboration with Marketing, IT/Marketing Ops, Data Engineers, and other data scientists to ensure data-driven outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage attribution, ROI, conversion, and funnel analysis to identify performance drops and anomalies, then translate these findings into clear recommendations for marketing leadership.
  • Link marketing spend to business outcomes across various channels and campaigns, providing guidance on where to allocate budget, reduce costs, or conduct new tests.
  • Proactively explore and correlate data to uncover unexpected insights, anticipate future questions, and present opportunities to the marketing team without waiting for specific requests.
  • Design and interpret A/B tests and other experiments using robust statistical methods, while clearly communicating the limits of significance and causality.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers and Analytics Engineers to integrate marketing data into the warehouse, define data requirements, and contribute to data models that connect marketing, sales, and product information.
  • Communicate insights effectively to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring they can take action, and document context, caveats, and decisions to maintain continuity during handoffs.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated history of influencing business or marketing decisions through analysis, rather than simply generating reports.
  • Proficiency in using modern AI tools to enhance productivity, including data exploration, code writing and debugging, analysis drafting, and insight acceleration.
  • Strong SQL skills, enabling independent querying, joining, and exploration of data without reliance on others to prepare datasets.
  • Advanced Python skills for analysis, modeling, and automation tasks.
  • Solid statistical foundation, including experimentation, significance testing, regression, segmentation, forecasting, and the ability to select appropriate methods.
  • Working knowledge of marketing and GTM data, including channels, campaigns, attribution models, funnel metrics, and the complexities of joining marketing data with CRM, sales, and product usage data.
  • Willingness to engage in data modeling, including exploring messy data and partnering on or building models rather than waiting for clean tables.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to respectfully challenge weak measurement and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Proactivity and autonomy, with a tendency to raise issues early, plan work independently, and seek impact without being asked.

Nice to have

  • A strong eagerness to develop skills, seek feedback, and view new tools and methods as opportunities for growth.

What the company offers

  • Relocation support is available for candidates who are not currently based in Geneva.
