Embedded Software Engineer

Harmattan AI, a next-generation defense company, seeks a Mid-level Embedded Software Engineer in Lausanne, CH, to support UAV system development. The role involves embedded software architecture, sensor integration, and collaboration with algorithm teams in an onsite, full-time position.

This position is part of a growing team focused on developing advanced UAV systems. The engineer will contribute to software architecture, development environment setup, and integration of sensor drivers and algorithms, while collaborating with algorithmic teams to support Harmattan AI’s mission and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

• Set up and manage embedded operating systems such as Embedded Linux or RTOS for UAV platforms.
• Enhance the embedded software architecture to ensure scalability and reliability.
• Create sensor drivers and integrate real-time algorithms with support from algorithmic teams.
• Refine and maintain telemetry systems for drone operations.
• Adhere to and promote high coding standards across the organization.
• Help develop in-house tools to speed up software development workflows.
• Work with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance systems for field use.

Requirements

• A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in embedded software development, particularly in robotics, aerospace, or similar domains.
• Strong skills in C/C++; Python experience is beneficial.
• Demonstrated experience with Embedded Linux or RTOS and multi-threaded/multi-process environments.
• Hands-on experience in developing and integrating sensor drivers, including interpreting technical datasheets.
• Practical use of debugging tools such as software debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
• Familiarity with build systems and version control, including Git.
• Solid grasp of firmware architecture and low-level programming concepts.
• Ability to work independently and resolve complex technical issues.
• Clear communication skills, capable of guiding team members across levels.
