Engineering Manager, Detectors (Zürich)

Lakera.Ai, a Check Point company, seeks an Engineering Manager for its Detectors team in Zürich. The role leads the development of machine learning systems for threat detection in GenAI and agentic AI applications, requiring 10+ years of experience in ML, applied AI, and software systems, with a focus on technical leadership and team growth.

Lakera, a Check Point company, is developing the security foundation for the GenAI and agentic AI era. The Detectors Group is responsible for core machine learning systems that enable fast, broad, and reliable threat detection. This senior engineering leadership role requires an experienced ML leader to guide technical strategy, execution, and organizational growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical vision, roadmap, and execution for Lakera’s detector and defense models.
• Manage and expand the Detectors Group (currently ~12 engineers), recruiting top ML and software engineering talent and developing senior individual contributors and technical leads to support future management layers.
• Collaborate with Product, Research, GTM, and other Engineering teams, serving as a key technical partner to Product in shaping the detection roadmap and translating customer needs into engineering priorities.
• Guide architectural and modeling decisions for production defense systems, ensuring high standards in quality, reliability, latency, and scalability.
• Establish technical and operational processes for experimentation, evaluation, deployment, and iteration.
• Design the team structure to support rapid growth while maintaining execution speed.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience as a senior ML and engineering leader in machine learning, applied AI, and software systems.
• Ability to engage deeply in technical work while also managing at the organizational and strategic level.
• Proven experience mentoring others and building leadership capacity within teams.
• Experience managing managers and leading multi-layered engineering teams.
• Humble, curious, and driven by creating the best technical solutions rather than personal or ideological agendas.
• Motivated by solving complex problems at the intersection of people, technology, and organizational dynamics.
• Track record of scaling teams and systems in fast-growing environments.

Nice to have

• Experience in building machine learning systems for security, trust and safety, or adversarial environments.
• Background in deploying ML systems under strict latency, reliability, or adversarial constraints.
