The International Union for Conservation of Nature seeks an Event Communications Coordinator for its 2027 World Protected and Conserved Areas Congress in Gland, Switzerland. This fixed-term role manages communications across English, French, and Spanish.
This position serves as the primary communications focal point for the IUCN World Protected and Conserved Areas Congress 2027. The coordinator will manage promotional activities and media relations before, during, and after the event, reporting to the Senior Global Communications Manager while collaborating with the Host country, WCPA, and external partners.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the main operational contact for event communications, bridging the Secretariat, Host country, and WCPA.
- Manage project timelines and provide guidance on event preparation phases.
- Update internal stakeholders on communication progress, budget status, and specific requests.
- Produce corporate marketing materials and event communications in English, French, and Spanish.
- Develop website content for the IUCN World PCA Congress site and IUCN.org, coordinating with the webmaster.
- Source and distribute photos and video assets to the team.
- Plan and execute newsletter marketing campaigns, including drafting editorial plans and issuing content.
- Manage translation tasks for all communication materials.
- Assist with international, regional, and national media relations efforts.
- Establish monitoring and reporting systems aligned with strategic communication goals.
- Contribute to the development of the on-site communications plan.
- Distribute essential documents and information to the expanded communications team in advance.
- Provide updates to the ORMACC Regional Director Office and supply media relations inputs as needed.
- Ensure participants receive necessary information, external audiences witness event outcomes in real-time, and IUCN captures highlights for follow-up.
- Lead the on-site event newsletter and coordinate with the webmaster for distribution.
- Coordinate the expanded communications team during the event as required.
- Track key performance indicators and report on communication activities during the event.
- Support the communication of PCA Congress outcomes.
- Coordinate post-event communications to maintain participant engagement, promote outcomes, and highlight future events.
- Lead the creation of the post-event report and lessons-learned document, including analytics gathering and drafting.
- Participate in the event and assist the Global Communications Unit with various communication activities throughout the contract duration.
