Flexion Robotics seeks a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer in Zürich to lead technical integrations for key customers, supporting on-site deployments and ensuring stable robot operations. The role requires expertise in robotics software, hardware interfaces, and real-world troubleshooting.
This role is part of Flexion’s Engineering team, tasked with scaling the company’s software across customer robot fleets. The engineer serves as a technical lead for key accounts, managing integrations from start to finish and ensuring successful, stable deployments.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical contact for key customer accounts, overseeing the integration of Flexion’s software stack onto customer hardware.
- Lead on-site deployment efforts, writing code and supporting the software lifecycle from initial setup through ongoing operations.
- Diagnose and fix full-stack issues involving software, hardware interfaces, and system integration, both remotely and on-site as needed.
- Collaborate with R&D and Product teams to expand deployments and remove roadblocks for customer rollouts.
- Collect logs, failure data, and field insights, then share actionable feedback with engineering to improve the product.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, deployment guides, and operations manuals to support customer independence.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Strong, production-level skills in C++ and Python.
- Direct experience developing software that interacts with robotics hardware, such as hardware abstraction layers, motor drivers, or sensor integrations.
- Proven experience in robotics hardware and software integration, especially in troubleshooting real robots.
- Solid understanding of networking (IPv4, TCP/IP, subnetting) and Linux networking tools.
- Hands-on experience with perception sensors and pipelines, including mono and stereo cameras and LiDAR.
- Knowledge of embedded systems communication protocols such as Ethernet, MIPI, I2C, and SPI.
- Extensive experience with robotics middleware, specifically ROS2 and DDS.
- Excellent communication abilities, including managing customer expectations and explaining technical solutions clearly.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed, approximately 20% of the time.
