Roche seeks a Senior Global Sustainability Manager within Pharma Technical Operations to lead sustainability transformation, drive zero GHG emissions goals, and embed sustainable practices across global engineering and industrial sites.
This position sits within the Pharma Technical Operations (PT) division, specifically under the Engineering & Sustainability team. The role serves as a global authority and change agent, responsible for leading innovative programs that integrate sustainability into all technical operations. The holder drives significant organizational transformation by setting standards, managing environmental impact reduction, and ensuring the alignment of global sites with Roche’s ambitious ecological goals.
Responsibilities
- Spearhead the global initiative for Pharma division sites to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
- Own the decision-making authority and accountability for implementing Eco-balance Action Plans (EAP) throughout the PT network.
- Establish network-wide standards to help Roche achieve its target of halving total environmental impact.
- Champion key initiatives including the Science Based Targets (SBTi) race to zero, energy efficiency, water stewardship, and circular economy practices.
- Identify emerging organizational and industry challenges, recommending and leading necessary improvements.
- Collaborate with Group SHE to ensure strategic alignment and define environmental sustainability targets.
- Maintain a consolidated roadmap and oversee lifecycle management and modernization efforts to meet carbon and resource goals.
- Create, deploy, and monitor sustainable technology standards globally to ensure compliance and performance.
- Prioritize the EAP portfolio by working with all PT functions to solve complex technical issues.
- Lead and grow the global Community of Practice for Energy and Water, serving as the central hub for knowledge exchange.
Requirements
- At least 12 years of professional experience in Manufacturing, Engineering, or Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE).
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- Recognized internal expertise supported by a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or Science.
- Strong ability to influence stakeholders, facilitate diverse groups, and build consensus.
- Demonstrated strategic and systems thinking capabilities.
- Deep knowledge of corporate directives, global and local legislation, and concepts related to energy conservation, resource management, and sustainability.
Nice to have
- Experience in the biotech or chemical industries.
- Industrial background in construction, building automation, HVAC, or energy management.
- Proficiency in the German language.
