Zurich Insurance Company Ltd. seeks a Director to lead the European Marine underwriting strategy, driving portfolio performance and growth through data-driven insights and stakeholder collaboration.
Within the Global Specialty division, this position is tasked with directing the underwriting strategy and overall performance of the Marine portfolio across Europe. The role leverages deep technical expertise and disciplined underwriting practices to help customers manage complex risks while ensuring the business meets its strategic objectives and financial targets.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the underwriting strategy for the European Marine portfolio, ensuring alignment with broader business goals and target performance levels.
- Take full accountability for the financial results of the portfolio by utilizing data analytics, performance metrics, and market insights.
- Track and analyze market trends, customer requirements, distribution channels, and regulatory changes specific to the marine sector.
- Partner with Claims, Risk Engineering, Distribution, and other internal teams to achieve shared business objectives.
- Build and sustain relationships with key clients, brokers, and market partners to drive profitable portfolio expansion.
- Engage in regulatory, compliance, and governance activities pertinent to the line of business.
- Foster underwriting capabilities and promote a proactive, inclusive environment for talent development.
- Serve as a subject matter expert to support the creation and delivery of underwriting training across the region.
- Enhance underwriting tools, processes, and operational efficiency within the Marine line of business.
- Provide guidance on complex individual deals and high-empowerment underwriting decisions.
- Lead underwriting reviews to identify performance trends and ensure the implementation of agreed-upon actions.
Requirements
- Proven expertise in underwriting marine risks and managing portfolios, with a history of delivering profitable growth.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the European marine market, underwriting landscape, and regulatory environment.
- Strong portfolio management skills, with experience using data-driven insights to inform strategic decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement underwriting strategies across multiple markets.
- Excellent command of the English language.
