Portfolio Owner - Engineering & Construction Underwriting (RoW) (Hybrid - 80-100%)

Swiss Re seeks a Senior Portfolio Owner for its Engineering & Construction underwriting team in Zürich. This hybrid role focuses on the Rest of the World market, requiring extensive technical and commercial expertise.

The company is looking for a senior professional to lead the Rest of the World segment of its global Engineering & Construction portfolio. Reporting directly to the Global Head, the incumbent will shape and execute the overarching strategy to ensure profitable expansion and effective risk management across international markets.

Responsibilities

• Represent the organization at a high level with major brokers, clients, and at industry conferences.
• Collaborate on defining and implementing the global strategy and vision for the Engineering & Construction sector.
• Create and oversee portfolio plans, including business targets, growth metrics, and capacity distribution.
• Track portfolio makeup, performance trends, and concentration risks to maintain balance.
• Serve as the primary technical expert for complex underwriting choices and new risk categories.
• Innovate new solutions to meet changing client demands in engineering, construction, and renewable energy.
• Report financial results and strategic updates to senior leadership regularly.
• Guarantee compliance with underwriting standards, risk governance frameworks, and portfolio controls.

Requirements

• A university degree in engineering (civil, mechanical, chemical, or process) or an equivalent qualification.
• At least ten years of experience in engineering underwriting within primary insurance or reinsurance.
• Fluent proficiency in English.
• Demonstrated expertise in data analytics and portfolio steering.
• Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Substantial background in underwriting Renewable Energy projects.

Nice to have

• An MBA or postgraduate degree in economics, finance, or business administration.
• A wide global network of corporate clients and brokers in the E&C or renewable energy fields.
• Experience collaborating with international, cross-functional teams and managing insurance portfolios.
