AXA seeks a Senior Underwriter for Construction in Zürich to lead underwriting for infrastructure and engineering projects, ensuring risk assessment and client satisfaction.
This position operates at the forefront of the global infrastructure investment trend. As part of a leading insurance provider in the construction segment, the role reports to the Underwriting Construction Manager and is regulated under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.
Responsibilities
- Create custom insurance solutions to secure new business and keep existing clients in sectors like building construction, renewable energy, oil/gas, power generation, and mining.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to understand their specific needs.
- Provide expert advice and support on insurance and risk management to ensure client satisfaction and address inquiries.
- Conduct technical risk assessments and determine appropriate premiums to maintain profitability.
- Identify and pursue cross-selling opportunities.
- Ensure smooth handover of new and renewed accounts to meet quality standards.
- Mentor and develop the skills of less experienced team members.
- Share underwriting best practices and knowledge within the team.
Requirements
- A degree in a technical or economic discipline, or an equivalent qualification.
- Several years of experience in underwriting within the construction or engineering industry.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Solid understanding of global construction underwriting principles.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with international clients and partners.
- Excellent marketing, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking.
- Ability to work independently and structure paths forward efficiently.
- A driven, solutions-oriented personality that thrives in fast-paced environments.
- Strong team collaboration skills.
- Willingness to travel frequently and flexibility for travel requirements.
- Excellent communication skills in English and German.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
