Senior Underwriter - Ceded Retrocession

Partnerre seeks a Senior Underwriter for Ceded Retrocession in Zürich to manage reinsurance programs, optimize coverage, and lead strategic projects within a supportive global team.

This position focuses on the management and optimization of ceded retrocession and reinsurance programs spanning various lines of business. The role provides extensive exposure to both catastrophe and non-cat protections while requiring close collaboration with internal teams and external brokers. The incumbent reports directly to the Group Head of Retrocession.

Responsibilities

• Oversee data collection and selection processes to ensure high-quality market submissions.
• Manage the full placement lifecycle, including pre-renewal kick-offs, renewal negotiations, and post-renewal reviews with brokers.
• Ensure all purchased coverage aligns with security standards, underwriting strategies, and internal protocols.
• Contribute to the evaluation and refinement of retrocession strategies for specific lines of business.
• Analyze and report on retrocession market trends, technical developments, and new product offerings.
• Lead specific retrocession-focused initiatives and projects.
• Cultivate strong relationships with brokers and markets, representing the company at relevant conferences and events.
• Develop and execute marketing plans to maintain regular engagement with brokers and markets throughout the year.

Requirements

• A university degree in a relevant discipline.
• Between 5 and 15 years of experience in non-life reinsurance.
• A robust understanding of reinsurance structures and contract wordings.
• Proven experience in participating in or leading projects.

Nice to have

• Experience across multiple lines of business, either in underwriting or broking.
• Specialty and catastrophe (Cat) experience.
• Proficiency in Excel.
• Familiarity with additional data analysis tools, such as Power BI.
