Laboratory Technician - Aquatic Ecotoxicology- 100%

A junior Laboratory Technician role in aquatic ecotoxicology at Eurofins Electric & Electronic Product Testing AG in Witterswil, CH. The position involves conducting GLP-compliant fish tests and biochemical assays to assess environmental safety.

This position sits within the Ecotox Biology Department of a Contract Research Organisation dedicated to aquatic ecotoxicology and environmental safety. The primary purpose of the role is to execute global field and laboratory studies that evaluate the safety of new substances and organisms for both humans and the natural world.

Responsibilities

• Execute laboratory tasks in strict adherence to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) compliant Standard Operating Procedures and laboratory schedules.
• Establish, maintain, and conduct static, semi-static, and flow-through tests involving various fish species, following OECD guidelines.
• Perform biochemical analyses, primarily Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assays (EIA), across different fish species.
• Draft and update Standard Operating Procedures, calibrate laboratory equipment, and carry out routine lab maintenance.
• Operate, control, and maintain automated static, semi-static, and flow-through testing systems.
• Care for fish across all life stages, including selection, observation, biometrical data registration, and sampling of blood and organs.
• Maintain aquaria of various sizes to support high-throughput testing capabilities.
• Prepare and apply chemical solutions as required for testing.
• Quantify biological, physical-chemical, biochemical, and physiological parameters analytically.
• Enter and process data using various software tools.
• Report biological and analytical progress in a concise and clear manner.

Requirements

• A valid LTK1 certification or license to work with animals is mandatory.
• Fluent proficiency in English is required.
• Ability to work accurately and timely in a strictly regulated environment according to detailed SOPs.
• Ability to work strictly according to planning and deliver results prior to deadlines.
• Attention to detail to report failures or deviations directly.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in biology or related scientific domain.
• 2 years of experience in a GLP regulated environment.
• 2 years of experience with fish keeping, handling, testing, and sampling.
• 2 years of experience with maintenance of aquaria and flow-through test systems.
• 2 years of experience performing OECD tests with fish in a GLP regulated CRO environment.
• 2 years of experience performing biochemical assays, particularly EIA.
• LTK 2 certification (preferred over LTK 1).
• Fluent German language skills.
• French language skills (asset).
