Legal Counsel

Huawei Switzerland seeks a Legal Counsel in Zürich to manage daily legal affairs for the Von Neumann Research Center, advising on contracts, compliance, and risk mitigation while collaborating with global teams.

This position supports the Von Neumann Research Center across its Zurich, Lausanne, and Graz offices. The role integrates into Huawei Switzerland’s legal department and the broader global legal network, enabling close cooperation with colleagues throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

• Advise internal teams on contracting matters spanning procurement, research partnerships, and business development.
• Draft and review commercial agreements, including NDAs, master service and procurement contracts, terms and conditions, IP-related documents, and real estate agreements.
• Assist with statutory compliance in areas such as anti-bribery, modern slavery, data protection, and export control.
• Deliver legal guidance to senior leadership, board members, and business units regarding corporate obligations, rights, risks, and organizational privileges.
• Identify potential risks in upcoming R&D initiatives and suggest mitigation strategies.
• Partner with administrative, HR, operations, finance, marketing, and professional development teams to ensure legal compliance across projects.
• Coordinate with internal departments to enforce company procedures and policies.
• Monitor and summarize recent legislative changes that could affect business operations.
• Provide bi-monthly legal updates covering new laws and emerging legal trends.
• Handle dispute resolution and litigation mitigation efforts.

Requirements

• Qualified Swiss solicitor with a minimum of two years of post-qualification experience in a Swiss law firm or an in-house legal role at a recognized organization.
• Proficiency in English and German, both written and spoken.
• Solid understanding of intellectual property rights, GDPR, Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP), Swiss Contract Law, and labor laws, with preferred litigation experience.

Nice to have

• Prior experience working in an in-house legal setting.
• Background in handling cross-border transactions.
• Knowledge of employment law or real estate matters.
• Familiarity with academic-industry research collaborations, including university decision-making and stakeholder engagement.
• Experience managing intellectual property issues.
• Experience liaising with Swiss government authorities on export control and trade compliance.
