Biogen (Switzerland) seeks a Senior Logistics Engineer in Baar to lead distribution packaging qualification and cold chain solutions for global supply chain operations.

The company is looking for a Subject Matter Expert to join the Global Distribution Packaging & Shipping Qualification team. This position plays a central role in selecting, qualifying, and implementing logistics solutions that meet temperature-controlled supply chain demands. The engineer ensures smooth operations for critical components and finished goods across Biogen facilities, contract manufacturers, and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Spearhead mid-to-high complexity improvement projects aimed at enhancing distribution capabilities and process efficiency.
  • Design, develop, and test complex distribution packaging solutions from initial concept through final implementation.
  • Create test strategies for GMP products that satisfy global regulatory standards.
  • Facilitate Supplier Relationship Management meetings and Request for Proposals (RFPs) while managing vendor partnerships.
  • Work closely with Logistics, Quality, and other internal departments to proactively resolve business challenges.
  • Oversee internal and external lab testing and lane validation activities to guarantee compliance and quality.
  • Assist with audits, health authority inspections, and regulatory inquiries concerning shipping qualification.
  • Handle Trackwise events, CAPAs, and investigations, prioritizing compliance and best practices.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert input on Global Change Controls and manage associated activity timelines.
  • Offer guidance on temperature monitoring strategies, technology transfers, and product launches.
  • Represent the distribution team in cross-functional forums and report progress to management.
  • Deliver training on cold chain protocols, best practices, guidelines, and relevant regulations to various departments.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree.
  • Possess a minimum of five years of experience in packaging, global logistics, or temperature-controlled supply chains.
  • Have experience working in international, regulated environments with knowledge of ASTM/ISTA packaging standards.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with testing standards and distribution laboratory settings.
  • Show expertise in temperature-controlled logistics, transportation, and packaging.
  • Have experience working in both US domestic and international contexts.
  • Be experienced in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environments.
  • Exhibit strong technical writing abilities and proficiency in Microsoft Word.
  • Be an exceptional team player with proven project management skills.

Nice to have

  • A Bachelor of Science or Arts in Packaging Science or Engineering is preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma or Green Belt certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience using MS Project and PowerPoint is beneficial.
  • Ability to build rapport across various organizational levels.
