Sr Laboratory Engineer

SHL Medical seeks a Senior Laboratory Engineer to lead polymer analysis and testing for AI devices in Switzerland, ensuring regulatory compliance and team development.

The company is looking for a senior specialist to establish and run a modern laboratory focused on polymer material analysis and the testing of AI-driven medical devices. This position ensures that all laboratory activities adhere to strict quality management systems and safety standards while building a capable team to meet strategic business goals.

Responsibilities

• Set up, manage, and enhance a cutting-edge laboratory dedicated to analyzing polymer materials and testing medical devices.
• Act as the primary expert for combination products and drug-delivery systems, creating and applying suitable analytical strategies.
• Create and carry out material testing methods to verify that products meet specific design requirements.
• Organize and document testing campaigns in line with internal quality protocols and external regulations.
• Analyze test results to understand material properties and manufacturing impacts, providing clear recommendations for improvement.
• Develop, enforce, and update standard operating procedures, work instructions, and safety guidelines.
• Manage equipment lifecycle activities, including qualification, calibration, and accreditation processes.
• Vet and oversee external labs and outsourced testing services to ensure quality and reliability.
• Work closely with R&D, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, and Manufacturing teams to support product development.
• Recruit, train, and mentor laboratory staff to build a high-performing team.
• Oversee laboratory budgets and resources, aligning capacity with the company’s long-term strategic roadmap.
• Serve as the main contact for laboratory matters, reporting regularly to management on performance and risks.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in analytical chemistry, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or material science.
• Demonstrated leadership skills to build and operate an efficient testing laboratory.
• Extensive experience in regulated sectors like MedTech, with a deep understanding of compliance and quality standards.
• Strong background in mechanical device testing and analytical technologies, supported by solid knowledge of polymer science, chemistry, metallurgy, and mechanics.
