Manufacturing Equipment Technician

Coherent Switzerland AG seeks a Manufacturing Equipment Technician in Zürich for hands-on maintenance and repair of semiconductor laser production equipment. The role requires technical training and experience with complex manufacturing systems.

This position is part of the Manufacturing Equipment Engineering team and focuses on supporting advanced production equipment used for semiconductor laser technologies. The role is highly practical, covering mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, cooling, and automated systems to ensure reliable manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled maintenance, fault finding, repairs, and calibration of production machinery.
• Assemble, set up, and commission manufacturing equipment for semiconductor laser production.
• Identify and fix mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and system problems to reduce equipment downtime.
• Record maintenance tasks and repair details in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Help maintain and develop systems for tracking spare parts.
• Calibrate equipment components and check performance against manufacturing and quality standards.
• Collaborate with technicians and engineers to enhance equipment reliability, process stability, and manufacturing efficiency.
• Assist with mechanical workshop tasks, including equipment modifications, repairs, and fabrication.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects aimed at boosting equipment performance, uptime, and operational excellence.

Requirements

• Completed vocational training in a technical field such as Automation Technology, Mechatronics, Polymechanics, Industrial Maintenance, Electronics, or a related discipline.
• Experience working in a manufacturing, production, industrial, or equipment maintenance setting.
• Practical experience with operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex production systems.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with pneumatics, cooling systems, or industrial automation is a plus.
